Ultrasonic Guided Wave (UGW)

SMARTCORR UGW technology is an effective way for online nondestructive testing and integrity monitoring of pipelines in various industries. UGW technology can be used to inspect the corrosion or erosion of pipelines and can cover 100% of the wall thickness of pipelines. The instrument can transmit low-frequency ultrasonic guided waves along the pipeline to both ends at a test point and can spread for a long distance, even under the insulation layer. The reflected echoes are received by the instrument, so as to evaluate the corrosion of the pipeline. This technology is widely accepted as an effective tool for pipeline network evaluation. Especially when it is difficult to carry out an inspection or because of the high cost of inspection, it is easier to give full play to its technical advantages.

SMARTCORR UGW is widely used to inspect and screen many engineering structures, particularly for the inspection of metallic pipelines around the world. In some cases, hundreds of meters can be inspected from a single location.

Features

  • 100% cross-section detectability.
  • High inspection efficiency, long detection range with single-point excitation.
  • Inspecting changes of both internal and external wall-thickness caused by metal loss.
  • High precision:1% metal loss of cross-section.
  • Reduction in costs of gaining access – insulated line with minimal insulation removal, corrosion under supports without need for lifting, inspection at elevated locations with minimal need for scaffolding, and inspection of road crossings and buried pipes.
