SMARTCORR® two-inch coupon corrosion monitoring system consists of Access Fitting, Coupon Holder, and Coupons. Corrosion coupons are one of the widest-used methods for the study of corrosion and its effects. They are relatively small, easily inserted and retrieved, and are an economical means of determining the cause and effect of corrosion.
Corrosion and erosion metal loss monitoring coupons are specially made for corrosion and erosion studies and are manufactured to the most demanding standards. Generally, corrosion coupons should be of an alloy the same as, or similar in chemical composition to the pipeline or vessel that is being monitored.
After being attached to the holder and using the access fitting, corrosion coupons enter the pipeline so they can be exposed to the fluid. After being exposed for up to 90 days or depending on the actual situation, the corrosion coupons in the pipeline are retrieved by the SMARTCORR® retrieval tool and service valve so they can be examined at a laboratory to gauge the amount of corrosion they have experienced during the exposure period.
