How it Works
The erosion caused by the friction of solid particles can damage pipeline equipment and interfere with the operation of downhole equipment, accelerate corrosion, and shorten its service life.
SMARTCORR®’s erosion monitoring system measures probe-sensitive element metal loss caused by the impact of solid particles, to timely and accurately monitor the abrasion of pipeline equipment and gauge wall thickness. Our system utilizes electrical resistance (ER) probe technology. As the probe’s sensing element erodes due to particle impingement, its electrical resistance increases. The transmitter converts that change in current into a calibrated erosion rate, making measurement direct and continuous, rather than the periodic measurement of other techniques. The system architecture is modular and retrofit-compatible, enabling deployment on existing pipelines without requiring a full system replacement.
The system’s measurement is immune to mechanical and process fluid noise, meaning it does not deliver the false readings often caused by vibrations in high-flow pipeline environments when using other techniques. Backed by more than 20 years of oil and gas instrumentation expertise, SMARTCORR® uses erosion monitoring designs that reflect field-validated engineering, not just laboratory specifications. We’re trusted by names including BP, Shell, and ExxonMobil.
